Developing Standard 2.5

Standard 2.5 of the Australian professional standards for teachers requires that educators know and understand literacy and numeracy strategies and their application in teaching areas ( Australian Institute for Teaching and School Leadership, 2018). Classes consist of students at various stages of literacy and numeracy development. Gaining the skills of Standard 2.5 will help me implement strategies to ensure I can teach literacy and numeracy at a high-quality level (Australian Institute for Teaching and School Leadership, 2017). 

To gain skills in the areas of Standard 2.5 that are required, I can attend Teaching Phonics in Early Childhood. Teaching phonics in early childhood is an online Professional development via blackboard, QUTs online learning platform (Queensland University of Technology, 2019). This professional development takes place from the 23rd Of March 2020 to the 19th of April 2020. The professional development covers a range of topics on teaching phonics to young children (Queensland University of Technology, 2019). By completing this professional development, I would gain knowledge and understanding in literacy teaching strategies and their application in teaching areas.
