Reflection of Standard - Certificate One in Auslan

The artefact shown her is a Certificate One in Auslan that I gained through Deaf Services Queensland. This artefact addresses Standard 1.6, in that through Auslan, I can demonstrate a broad knowledge and understanding of the legislative requirements and teaching standards that support participation and learning of students with a disability.

In 2016 I completed my Certificate One in Auslan (Australian Sign Language) through Deaf Services Queensland. By gaining signing skills, I have expanded the community in which hearing-impaired students learn and live. I have worked in two schools now both of which have hearing-impaired students. The school in which I am currently employed as a Teacher Aide has four students who are clinically deaf, and by being able to communicate with them, I can implement teaching strategies to help support the full participation and learning of these students with disabilities. When studying Auslan, I was taught information on deaf culture and how to communicate according to Deaf protocol. I can engage the deaf students through communication and support their full participation.
