In order to teach in Queensland, I must have a teaching qualification, sometimes referred to as an Initial Teacher Education (ITE). ITE can be: 

• a four-year undergraduate degree such as a Bachelor of Education  
• a dual or combined degree where 2 degrees including an education degree is completed
• a postgraduate degree such as a Masters of Teaching with a degree that is non-education related (The State of Queensland (Department of Education), 2019).

All Queensland teachers are required to hold a current teacher registration with the Queensland College of Teachers (QCT). QCT examine professional conduct, qualifications and professional experience to ensure Australian professional standards for teachers are met. Professional experience is made through placements in schools, and it is a requirement to gain registration with QCT as it is a vital component of studying teaching. 

In Queensland, it is the legal requirement that anyone working with children hold a current Blue Care Card. Blue Care Card applicants go through a thorough screening process and are continually monitored to ensure the safety of children (The State of Queensland 1995–2019, 2019). Finally, it is the legal requirement of Teachers and others who work in Australia to be an Australian citizen or hold a valid Australian working visa (The State of Queensland 1995-2019, 2019).
