Rationale

The first artefact is a screenshot taken from my second professional experience mentor assessment form. The rubric element clearly demonstrates my understanding of various types of assessment and the written feedback below confirms my capacity to use assessment outcomes to inform future teaching and learning experiences. To further demonstrate such capability, I have included an excerpt from my daily reflection email to my tutor (Artefact 2). The excerpt is a reflection on my math lesson and it identifies how I utilised diagnostic, formative and summative assessment to provide feedback and inform future planning. This is evident where I have modified my lesson plans based on workbook responses to address misconceptions, gaps in understanding, and in turn, as per my mentor feedback, foster student engagement and a satisfactory level of knowledge acquisition.

Hi Sophie

Thanks for allowing me to review your work.

The artefact works well because you included a reflection of your work. In your next prac try and take pictures of the students work for further evidence. You write of diagnostic, formative, and summative assessment. Your future portfolio page should have evidence for all three types if that is what you claim to demonstrate.

Have a look at this AITSL document providing examples of artefacts you could use. It contains some great ideas. "Examples of student work resulting from various assessment strategies developed by the teacher" is one of them. This one seems to align with your current artefacts.

Concerning the page. You might want to provide better, more descriptive, headings for your artefacts.

Great effort and it looks like you're on track to become a fantastic teacher. For your current pre-service level your artefacts work very well but keep your future portfolio in mind during your next prac but especially when completing your internship.

The mentor feedback works well as it shows recognition of your skills in Standard 5 by an established educator. I would have loved to see one of your assessment tasks though to accompany this!
 
The reflection is a really great artefact! I hadn't considered inclusion of a reflection. It demonstrates how you integrated formative assessment practices throughout your maths teaching, and planned a summative task at the end of the unit.
 
Overall your whole portfolio is very neatly organised and well designed. Well done!
