Excerpt from assessment task where I was required to develop HPE lesson plans and a student-friendly rubric to assess student achievement of learning goals.

Artefact 1

Rationale

This artefact demonstrates my capacity to make consistent and comparable judgements by developing and utilising a rubric that aligns with the Australian Curriculum and specified learning objectives. The lesson requires students to locate and record phone numbers to complete an emergency contact sheet. Then, the teacher conducts a role-play triple-zero phone call where the students are required to demonstrate understanding of situations that require emergency assistance and appropriate strategies they can use when requiring assistance. Finally, for homework the students are tasked with recording the contact numbers of two trusted adults and as an optional extension- creating a key-tag at home for their school bag with 000 and two trusted adult contact numbers.

The rubric is specifically reflective of these learning outcomes, designed to be student-friendly so that they are aware of and responsible for the standard of quality work, and there is a clear fluid progression through the levels of achievement. The rubric structure is effective for fair marking purposes as it helps teachers, students, and parents understand what quality performance looks like and, if questioned, the teacher has a solid justification for the mark awarded.
