Data-driven decision making

Set learning goals that provide achievable challenges for students of varying abilities and characteristics.

This page provides evidence for meeting Standard 3 (specifically sub-standard 3.1) at a graduate level.

This artefact is an individual learning plan (ILP) I developed for a student whom I taught during my third Primary Professional Experience. I selected this particular artefact as it shows the learning goals that I set for the student based on his ability and characteristics that I identified through data analysis. The theory of data driven decision making was the recommended model that I applied to collect, analyse, and interpret evidence for this student for the purpose of the development of his ILP (Mandinach & Jackson, 2012). I learnt how to use data to set achievable learning goals and understand why using a triangulation of data sources is an essential component of data-driving decision making to identify a problem, suggested possible solutions and continually monitor progress through a collaborative enquiry process.

This artefact exemplifies the 3.1 AITSL standard as it identifies a learning problem for the identified student; outlines the implications for learning interventions to support the student in their literacy acquisition; addresses the specific student learning needs; and it sets achievable learning goals with recommendations for their literacy acquisition.

To improve this area to move towards the next career stage I will ensure that I use frequent formative assessment in my classroom to determine if the learning goals have been met and to inform practice and differentiate instruction (Mandinach & Jackson, 2012).
