Focus area 3.6:
The chosen artefact is an excerpt from a science unit, along with the example of lesson one. These artefacts meet 3.6, which encompasses evaluating and improving teaching programs. These artefacts include diagnostic, formative, and summative assessments throughout the 5-week unit. This is designed to provide opportunities to assess student learning, including the ability to assess teaching strategies, and evaluate the programs to lead to better outcomes. I believe that a teaching program is important in order to scaffold information to achieve the highest level of knowledge attainment, however, I do believe they should also remain adaptable as the learning needs and expectations can change. I believe utilising the diagnostic, formative and summative assessments, provide feedback to the teacher regarding the child's progress but also the teacher's effectiveness. I believe each lesson should be a learning curve, and evaluations of the lessons and future programs should be regularly conducted. I will endeavour to consult with my mentor and future teaching team to ensure I am able to make changes when required to improve teaching programs.
