Nationally Coordinated Criminal History Check
As a pre-service teacher that has to attend practicums in the near future, the Criminal History Screening Policy requires me to undertake a screening for criminal convictions (Department of Education, n.d.). This clearance can be applied for online and then the Summary Sheet can be submitted, along with four items of identification, to a local screening unit. As I do not have any criminal history, I have been cleared and allocated a Screening Clearance Number (SCN). Once I begin working for the Department of Education, my screening status will remain valid until I have a break-in-service (Department of Education, n.d.).
Working With Children Check
In addition, I am required to undertake a compulsory screening strategy, or Working With Children (WWC) check, as I will soon be engaging in child-related work (Government of Western Australia, n.d.). A WWC check is required in order to ensure children are always protected. If my application is successful, I should soon be receiving an Assessment Notice in the form of a WWC card. This card permits me to work in schools for my practicums and is valid for three years (Government of Western Australia, n.d.). I have applied for this check and have a receipt as evidence, although I am still waiting to receive my card.
