1.5 – Differentiate teaching to meet specific learning needs of students across the full range of abilities

The final assessment of my Child Development for Educators unit required me to choose three scenarios and respond to specific questions that were relevant to each scenario. The scenarios I chose were related to promoting student motivation, providing for children with cognitive disabilities, and supporting children from refugee backgrounds. By focusing on these particular subjects, and doing academic research on each, I believe I have demonstrated the AITSL graduate standard 1.5 which warrants that educators can differentiate teaching in order to meet the specific learning needs of students across the full range of abilities (AITSL, 2017). In addition, I also participated in a diversity event based on supporting diverse leaders for quality education and received a Certificate of Participation. This event made me aware of research-based strategies I could implement in to support diverse learners in their learning environment, which are all very relevant to standard 1.5.
