Acknowledgement of Country
I acknowledge the traditional custodians of Perth's regional land, as being the Whadjuk Noongar people, and I pay my respects to all Elders past, present and emerging.
About me
Hello everyone, my name is Maria McGuiness, and welcome to my Teaching Portfolio.
I am currently studying for a Master of Teaching (Secondary), and I am in my first year of the course. My teaching specialisation is Humanities and Social Sciences (HASS). I have attained a Bachelor of Arts (Humanities) at Curtin University, with a Major in Geography and a Minor in Literary and Cultural Studies. I have always respected the profound positive impact teachers can have on the lives of their students. In secondary school I had an extraordinarily inspiring Geography teacher who influenced me to become a teacher, and want to help young people flourish in their learning journeys.
Teachers have the privilege of being able to directly influence students' lives, for the better. I acknowledge teaching as a selfless way to give back to society, by helping students develop into well-rounded individuals. I hope to become a teacher who makes an enduring positive impact on students' lives; inspires them to pursue their dreams; and provides an authentic, holistic 21st Century education which serves as an empowering tool for the future success of students.
