Rationale
To demonstrate that I am working towards the graduate standard 2.1 (content and teaching strategies of the teaching area), I have presented a personal numeracy item that gives an overview of the mathematical content knowledge and pedagogical content knowledge required to effectively teach Geometry to primary school children.
This paper is an appropriate artefact as it explicitly identifies my knowledge of the concept of Geometry, the four key stages in which it needs to develop, and appropriate experiences and manipulatives to be applied to the teaching area.
The artefact aligns with standard 2.1 as it details the pre-service teacher’s mathematical content knowledge, identifies common misconceptions that may become apparent, and offers numerous practical teaching strategies to scaffold students’ in developing in-depth, conceptual understandings of the subject.
