Artefact
Reflection
ICT plays a huge role in the 21st century, both externally through learning, communication, employment, and numerous other areas as well as internal to the classroom environment.
This artefact is a list of ICT resources that I collected and observed in use whilst on my first placement.
Throughout my placement, I witnessed that ICT was incorporated into the majority of lessons within the classroom.
It became clear that the students really engaged with the content when it was on a screen or they were given the autonomy to complete tasks on their own with computers or iPads. Further to engaging students, ICT served as a meaningful way of supporting ESL students, providing a visual stimulus, incorporating music, or interactive platforms, and allowed for flexibility in teaching and differentiation. It was particularly useful for one student who broke their ‘writing’ arm as they were unable to write, turn pages without frustration, or participate in physical activity.
My list of resources is not fixed and will continue to grow as I spend more time in the classroom, however, I am pleased with the variety that I have collected already. The artefact highlights how these can be used in the classroom, for example Wushka is used for reading and comprehension, Scratch is a coding program that can also be used to celebrate the diversity that ESL students bring to the classroom, and YouTube is useful for videos or songs, however, the teacher needs to view the entire video first to gauge its pertinence.
