Classroom Planning

To begin a lesson, students require a provocation: something that will make them think about a topic within the transdisciplinary theme. Through the provocation, students will begin to use other skills learnt and practised on a daily basis including thinking skills, communication skills and social skills. The role of the educator is to provide a provocation for students without influencing the inquiry process. The Greatest Showman video is used as a provocation for students to begin thinking about values and other peoples perspectives.

The PYP provides the opportunity for students to benefit from learning in a contextual and conceptual manner, utilising the classroom and external environment, research tools and collaboration between students and educators. As an IB educator, the focus for students is not about memorising knowledge or reciting information, but to engage in their world, explore their curiosities and promote lifelong learning.

Understanding who I am as an IB educator will be a lifelong journey that will have multiple experiences along the way. Demonstrating my willingness to learn in within different environments will enhance my values and the ways I interact with students, which will have a positive impact on the classroom. The PYP framework and Inquiry learning enables students and educators to learn about the world around them, collaborating on why things happen. Through learning to collaborate and think about current world situations allow students the reflection they need to be internationally minded.
