Exploring the International Baccalaureate

The International Baccalaureate was founded in 1968, introducing the Diploma Programme (DP) to enable intercultural understanding, international citizenship and a world perspective. From the beginning of the IB, the framework implemented a student-centred approach to educate students on how to learn, rather than memorisation of knowledge. The Middle Years Programme (MYP) was introduced in 1994, the Primary Years Programme (PYP) in 1997 and the Career-related Programme (CP) in 2012.

The IB has International Mindedness at its centre, and this is evident throughout the four programmes and knowledge learnt, the approaches to teaching, approaches to learning, understanding of key concepts, transdisciplinary themes, interdisciplinary themes and learner profiles. The goal of the IB is to develop students who can think critically and fairly, consider how other people's viewpoints may also be right, and consider how they can help the community on both a local and a global scale.
