International Mindedness - Who We Are

The programme developed for year three (seen in Overarching Planning) utilises the transdisciplinary theme of Who We Are and enables students to consider the world around them and gain alternative perspectives whilst considering their own views and values.

The programme encourages students to think of what it means to be a good role model, enabling the opportunity for students to demonstrate essential skills necessary for 21st-century learning, including critical thinking skills, personal and social capability skills, ethical understanding and intercultural understanding, all outlined in the Australian Curriculum in general capabilities. The programme also enables students to critically reflect on their chosen role models, providing the building blocks for intercultural understanding and global citizenship. Who We Are as a transdisciplinary theme helps students to see beyond a world of their own with the opportunity to explore multiple key concepts outlined within the PYP programme.

The Australian Curriculum outlines key aspects that align with the International Baccalaureate within their General Capabilities. Providing tools and strategies to students that enable them to develop their thinking, research, communication, social and self-management skills (as outlined in the Approaches to Learning in the PYP Google Sheet) works with the Australian Curriculum General Capabilities and Cross-Curricular Priorities with the focus on 21st century students being competent in the world around them.
