Hi Julie,

This is a really create lesson that incorporates maths concepts into art. I like the way you have planned the lesson to focus on the geometric aspects, always referring back to symmetry.

In lesson 2&3 you incorporate mandala use in Tibetan culture. My suggestion would be to investigate what other cultures use symmetry and geometric shapes in their artwork, such as Japanese geometric art and maybe investigating the use of geometric patterns in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander artworks.

I also really enjoyed the idea of a personal mandala!

Hey Julie,

Your Art lesson plan is so in depth! The learning outcomes and objectives are clearly identifiable which would make any teacher be able to pick up this lesson plan and teach it to their students which is a good thing! I really like how you included learning strategies within the lesson plan. I also read over the differentiation strategies, and would suggest maybe incorporating other ways you could differentiate the lesson for example for a student with difficulties following the instruction or flow of the lesson? Maybe adding a simpler option for those students would enhance this lesson plan even more! :)

As Shannon said, another suggestion for the lessons could be exploring other cultures, or as an extension of these lessons, asking students to do their own research about cultures that use symmetry and geometric shapes within their artworks.

I really enjoyed looking at your worked examples and I think this is a great teaching strategy to demonstrate clear objective to your future students :)
