My Pedagogical Beliefs

As a preservice teacher, I am a believer in Vygotskian theory and the zones of proximal and actual development, where scaffolding is a key component to successful education. My goal as an educator is to make learning fun and creative while educational. I plan on embracing my students' cultural backgrounds by exploring these cultures as part of our classroom activities.

I read a statement recently that said “Students do not need perfect teachers. Students need educators who get them excited about learning. A teacher who smiles and makes them enjoy coming to school each and every day” (We are teachers, n.d.). This statement affirms my beliefs that student engagement is of the highest importance. Students need to be immersed in meaningful, relatable lessons that hold their attention.

I am also an avid believer in mentorship and professional development. I welcome any constructive feedback that can assist me in becoming a valuable resource for my students.
