This page contains evidence towards Standard 1.4 of the Professional Graduate Level Standard for Teachers.

The following evidence is a literature review completed into culturally responsive teaching and the importance of Country to Indigenous students in Australia. With specific mentions of different strategies applied to different groups, the literature review is a call to research more into the effectiveness of the strategies employed due to the prevalence of the gap in academic achievement and attainment between Indigenous and non-Indigenous students.
This demonstrates the achievement of standard 1.4 because it shows:
- understanding of Country and the significance of this to Indigenous students
- How Terra-Nullius created alienation and estrangement for Indigenous people to Country and culture
- strategies recommended by scholars and Indigenous Elders
My goal for the future is to teach in a school with a high number of Indigenous students so that I can learn how best to teach them in a culturally appropriate way that engages them with education and hopefully allow for an equitable future.
