Description

This lesson plan series was developed for a Year 5 class as a part of a creative writing plan. This lesson was the second in the series, and it built on the skills and knowledge developed in lesson 1.  The writing process in this lesson starts to take shape from the brainstorming process of the prior lesson. The purpose was to develop the skills required to draft, edit and publish a creative writing piece.

Lesson Plan 2

Reflection

The artefact used as evidence displays my ability to meet the requirements of AITSL graduate standards 2.1, 2.3 and 2.6.

In this lesson plan of the series, my ability to teach the content of which I have existing knowledge is reflected. Therefore, working towards meeting the sub-standard od AITSL graduate standard 2: Know the content and how to teach it.

Focus area 2.1 evidence is contained in the introduction of the lesson. A part of the teaching strategy implemented is the use of a teacher-led question and answer session. This was used as a method to check the level of understanding from the prior days learning. Upon reflection, the use of differentiation strategies could have been more explicit.

As the lesson plan is a part of a series there are several forms of assessment utilised as required by sub-standard 2.3. This lesson specifies a formative assessment should be carried out. The description used for the assessment is brief.  Upon reflection, further detail is required specifically relating to the exact skills each independent student should be working towards or achieving during this lesson.

Information and communication technology (ICT) is an integral component in the planning for and development of 21st-century learners. This lesson integrates the use of ICT at several stages throughout the plan. The teacher introduces a video using the interactive whiteboard. The students are also given opportunities to access iPads for research and investigation purposes. For this lesson the use of ICT is appropriate.
