What is Required?

All people, aged 14 years and above are required, by law, to have a Working with Children Check (WWC). The WWC is recognised nationwide and is used to provide a child-safe environment within a school environment. I have applied for my WWC, but I can take up to 6 weeks to receive it back.

The Teachers Registration Board of South Australia (TRB) (2018) states that all registered teachers within South Australia must undertake appropriate Mandatory Notification Training (MNT). The MNT is a 7 hour, face to face course provided by a trainer from The Department of Child Protection. The MNT must be updated every 3 years to remain valid.

Obtaining the first-aid certificate is not a requirement of teacher registration in South Australia; however, the TRB (2018) suggests that this may be required by some employers within South Australia. These clearances are necessary for working with children to help keep them safe in our communities.
