Demonstrate knowledge of teaching strategies that are responsive to the learning strengths and needs of students from diverse linguistic, cultural, religious and socioeconomic backgrounds
As part of the Theories of Development and Learning unit that I completed within the Master of Teaching degree, I presented a case study of reading intervention from various pedagogical perspectives that considered a diverse group of learners and how to cater to all of their needs in an inlcusive classroom. An excerpt from that assessment is used here to evidence this standard.
This assessment allowed me to consider how each different approach to the issue could be employed, to varying effect, and the implications for learning as a result. Through this, I appreciate the need for an extensive toolkit of strategies, with examples of such provided within this evidence, in order to meet the needs of the diverse and unique student population of today (Duchesne & McMaugh, 2019). Certainly, there is not one particular approach that will work for every student, and I need to be able to adapt to the differing needs of my students, by understanding their differences, and working to their strengths.
I intend to use a reflective journal to consider how effectively I have employed different strategies, from this foundation of knowledge, to progress my teaching further.
