Reflection

The evidence I have provided for this Standard is a ticket to the professional development training ‘Early Years – Pedagogical Documentation’, along with activities and critical reflection I engaged in while attending. I was offered the opportunity to participate in this training during my third professional experience and was able to attend alongside my mentor teacher and other teachers and educators from the centre. At this event I was privileged to learn from speakers Alma Fleet and Anthony Slattery about Pedagogical Documentation, its purpose, impact and suggested ways to engage with and meaningfully create authentic Pedagogical Documentation.

In attending this professional development opportunity, I demonstrated my commitment to engaging in professional learning and continually improving my practice as an educator. While attending this event I purposefully and authentically engaged with the learning opportunities provided and was able to engage in meaningful dialogue with colleagues and peers on the topics covered. I also engaged in critical reflection of my current and future practice.

Attending this professional development filled me with a renewed commitment to developing my knowledge and ability in Pedagogical Documentation. Since this training I have explored the ways Pedagogical Documentation is understood and implemented in my own workplace. As a casual educator I am not typically involved in the documentation process, but I have taken the time to explore the documentation created by room leaders and ask questions about it.

My attendance and subsequent endeavours to put my new knowledge into practice demonstrate my commitment to engaging in professional learning and improving my practice, demonstrating my proficiency against Standard 6.2 (Australian Institute for Teaching and School Leadership [AITSL], 2017a).

I will further develop and demonstrate my proficiency against this Standard by maintaining my commitment to ongoing learning and professional development to improve my practice. I will do this by researching and engaging in professional learning opportunities. For example, I have registered to complete the ‘Protective Practices’ course, a self-paced course to better understand the Protective Practice Guidelines offered on Plink, the South Australian Department of Education online learning management system (Department of Education, South Australia, 2024). I will complete this course by 17^th February 2025. Along with this commitment, as part of Assessment 3 for EDC445 (SP4 2024) I have developed a Professional Development Plan outlining my plans for my professional development progression in 2025. Having clear, achievable goals for my professional development will keep me motivated and on-track as I begin my career as a teacher (Thompson, 2013). These plans for future development against this Standard will support me to achieve at the Proficient teacher level (AITSL, 2017b).
