Standard 1.5 Differentiate teaching to meet the specific learning needs of students across the full range of abilities.

The Graduate Teacher Standard 1.5 is defined and described by AITSL as “Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of strategies for differentiating teaching to meet the specific learning needs of students across the full range of abilities” (AITSL, 2019).

Guided learning enables educators to assist and support student’s specific learning needs across a range of abilities. “Every individual learns and through learning develops modes of behaviour by which they live”(Essays, 2018). Guided learning is a technique used to cater to each individual learner and is used to manage self-regulated skills. “It helps to develop personalised learning since it is a means of tailoring teaching and learning to the needs of individual pupils to provide structured support and challenge inside or outside normal lesson to address aspects of progress and specific needs” (Essays, 2018). This artefact relates to the standard 1.5 as it shows a strategy that demonstrates the full understanding of differentiated teaching methods. The snapshots given show the different methods of guided learning, such as listening and reading, that meet the specific learning needs of students.

MathsOnline is an online resource used to help student’s progress through the numeracy curriculum at their own pace and with extra support if they need it ("MathsOnline - Maths Tuition For All Australian K-12 Students", 2019). This artefact links to the standard 2.6 as it is an ICT teaching resource that allows students to expand their curriculum knowledge and provides more opportunities for better comprehension of units and also an engaging way of self-regulated learning. I have chosen this as evidence of this standard as ICT used for educational purposes expands students knowledge, and is rated very highly by both teachers and students “Once I discovered MathsOnline with it’s very logical curriculum structure, fantastic graphics and friendly style, we were able to tackle both kids’ deficiencies”.

For this standard, I chose to explore the use of differentiated learning with lesson planning and structure through the use of worksheets. The snapshots show three different levels of numeracy worksheets that allow students to work with what they know and also something that is challenging to them. This artefact relates to the standard 3.2 as it shows a teaching strategy with lesson planning, structure and learning programs that are catered to each individual student. The AITSL (AITSL, 2019) states that promoting this standard can be achieved by designing units. The artefacts I created online using an online worksheet generator ("Addition Worksheet Generator | Education.com", 2019), I have shown the individualized worksheets that I have designed for the different learning abilities of each student. This worksheet generator allows for the different student learning and content within the lesson.
