My Teaching Philosophy

As an educator, my responsibility is to provide an environment that is positive and inclusive where children can learn and grow in that they feel safe in. I aim to build a safe environment and maintain it by encouraging and challenging each student. Building a respectful and trusting relationship with students, which will assist me in promoting and supporting their individual learning needs. As a teacher, I aspire to empower my students through their schoolwork using the curriculum and throughout the community and in doing so, prepare them to become communicators, problem-solvers, self-regulated learners, and confident individuals.

As an educator, it is important for me to show the importance and values of the individual. I hope to promote equality and equity within the learning environment by preparing and educating my students of the socio-cultural and socio-economical issues our communities face. By doing this, I will be encouraging students to respect each other and other cultures and the different religions other people have.

For teachers educating today, there are many challenges with keeping children engaged and interested in certain areas of classroom activities. Teaching in the 21^st century involves the use of technology and a diverse amount of online resources for lesson plans and activities. With online learning resources, I will utilise current ICT devices such as iPads and tablets to create a fun and engaging learning environment. I hope to incorporate my ICT knowledge to expand my students learning and also cater to the different learning styles of each individual student.

With the use of ICT in the learning environment can come with child safety concerns and as technology develops, there is an increase in the dangers that come with having a digital footprint. As a teacher, my student’s safety is of the highest importance and a high priority for them to feel safe. For me to be able to keep my students safe online, it is important that I am always fully aware of what they are doing online and what is happening when they are online whilst they are in my care.
Before I allow my students to have access to ICT devices such as computers or any other technological devices, it is important that they are properly educated about the risks and understand the responsibility they must have. I will do this through class discussions, posters, handouts and activities in which they will learn about what it means to have a digital footprint and the dangers of cyber-bullying. Having a good trust and respect system for online learning, students will explore the world of technology and exhibit a responsible manner to remain safe while they fulfill the required learning curriculum. With a good teacher-student relationship, students would feel comfortable asking me questions or confident in reporting inappropriate online behaviour.
Having students fully aware of the responsibility they have online ensures that they can remain on task and focused on in-class activities safely with my supervision.

My teaching philosophy is that as a teacher, I should inspire my students and support and guides them through their educational journey. I should be there to constantly encourage individuality, creativity and especially self-expression. I want to always maintain a positive outlook in class and for my students.
