Reflection against Standard 4.4 Maintain Student Safety

This artifact is a written essay that demonstrates my understandings of behaviour management and safety considerations in a physical education setting. This artifact was created by me on the 4th of May 2019 and intended for years 1 to 4. It was created for educational purposes in a tertiary assessment context. The artifact shows evidence of my understanding of how to maintain student safety and preventative behavioural management strategies. For example, the artifact demonstrates how I would maintain student safety by highlighting the importance of sun safety during outdoor activities. This includes employing the Slip, Slop, Slap, Slide and Seek guidelines by Sun Smart (2012) to ensure that students remain safe and informed during outdoor activities. This artifact also demonstrates my abilities to employ preventative behavioural management strategies during physical activities. For example, the artifact shows how I explored the importance of providing positive feedback for students by praising appropriate behaviour during physical activities. To move to a proficient standard, I plan to implement the strategies I have explored in the essay into a lesson plan and a real-world context. This will be paired with reflective discussion with other teachers and anecdotal notes on the strengths and weaknesses of the approaches.
