Professional Devlopment - Goals for developing skills in this focus area

I feel that I would require more development in the area of developing engagement and inclusive classroom activities. I have limited experience with children, other than sporting teams, and I understand the diversity of schools and the importance of inclusive education. Therefore, I have found a Student Wellbeing Hub (Commonwealth of Australia, 2019), that offers free, self-paced courses. It provides a certificate at completion that aligns with Australian Professional Standards (Australian Institute for Teaching and School Leadership [AITSL], 2017), and The Australian Student Wellbeing Framework (Department of Education, Skills and Employment, 2018).

The Framework consists of five elements of leadership, inclusion, student voice, partnerships and support (Department of Education, Skills and Employment, 2018). The courses I am registering to complete are on inclusion and student's voice, although it may be beneficial to complete all five. I aim to develop strategies to support inclusive student participation and engagement, and in turn, promote social and emotional development (AITSL, 2017). I will also research evidence-informed practices that may be able to assist in modelling and to promote values to support inclusive education. I will be able to measure my achievement in this area when parent help starts back up at the school, or when I complete my practicum later in 2020. The evidence that I will provide is the certificate that is supplied at the end of completing the relevant modules. I am hoping to complete these by the end of July 2020.

The Framework can also be linked with focus areas 1.1, 1.2, 1.3 and 4.3 in the understanding of how children learn and how to cater for diverse and socio-economic backgrounds, and strategies to manage challenging behaviour (AITSL, 2017).
