Description

Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of research into how students learn and the implications for teaching.

This page provides evidence for meeting Standard 1 (specifically sub-standard 1.2) at a graduate level.

Rationale for evident supplied

The evidence provided demonstrates knowledge and understanding of theories and research into how students learn and how it affects teaching (Australian Institute for Teaching and School Leadership, 2017). This artefact is a snippet from an assessment from the unit Introducing Language, Literacy and Literature, with tutor feedback.

The assessment snapshot consists of a discussion around ways to engage and empower students to develop a writer’s identity and how teacher interactions can assist with this by modelling positive behaviour towards writing. The artefact demonstrates my understanding of teaching strategies and my knowledge of how important teacher interactions are in guiding students understanding. This knowledge aligns well with my teaching philosophy, in the appreciation that inquiry-based teaching can empower students through interest-based writing (Gardner, 2018).

I realise that with continuous learning and development, my knowledge and understanding of research and how to implement these will evolve.
