My name is Nathan Pearson, and I am a pre-service teacher studying at Curtin University through Open Universities Australia. I commenced studying this degree in November 2017, and I expect to finish my Internship in October 2020.

Teaching has not been my first choice as a course after having numerous negative experiences at school as a student I entered the workforce with no desire to ever return to the classroom. I subsequently spent ten years in Fast Moving Consumer Goods Management, working for several companies over this time. In 2016 I resigned from my last job and Moved to Shanghai China with my wife, who had just accepted a position at a prominent Shanghai International School. I soon found my self working at the school as a Sports Coach and Learning Support Assistant. It is through this interaction that I discovered the Impact and value that teaching has on young people, and it is the students and Staff that developed my passion and interest in education. In 2017 I began my teaching journey Enrolling in my first set of units, which I thoroughly enjoyed being allowed to put my learning into practice the very same day. In 2018 I accepted the role of Resource teacher at our school while continuing my studies this varied role has me working with and supporting teacher and students from 2-year-old Kindergarten to grade six allowing me to learn and engage with children at various stage of development.

I have developed an interest in working with students with additional needs in literacy and numeracy particularly students with learning disorders as I feel some learning disorders regualry go unrecognised or are considered to be not significant enough to warrant additional funding and support.

Another area of interest for me is that of Project-Based Learning seeing students be able to use/discover knowledge through the compleating real-world, and relevant projects create another layer of learning that empowers students to apply their critical thinking and expertise in a meaningful way further enhancing the learning experience.

I am a massive Harry Potter fan and have read and re-read the books almost yearly since I was 11 years old. Harry Potter was the books that helped me learn to read as a small child; I found reading to be very difficult. I do often find my self debating Harry Potter with the older students at school.

I'm looking forward to finishing my degree and applying the knowledge I have gained through my Pre-service teaching experience and the experience I have learned through my role as a Resource teacher.
